Apollo 13Tuesday 29th of March 2005 Universal Pictures UK is releasing a 2 disc Special Edition DVD of breathtaking adventure Apollo 13 to celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary. The DVD is out to own and rent on 11th April 2005, exactly 35 years to the day after the original Apollo 13 mission. Directed by Academy Award Winner® Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Happy Days), Apollo 13 is a vividly depicted account of Apollo 13’s true-life brush with disaster on the way to the Moon in 1971. The film features an outstanding cast of Hollywood talent including Academy Award Winner® Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump), Kevin Bacon (Mystic River, Sleepers), Bill Paxton (U-571, Twister) and Gary Sinise (CSI:NY, Ransom). Ed Harris (The Truman Show, The Hours) received an Academy Award® Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Gene Kranz, while Kathleen Quinlan received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Marilyn Lovell. Astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert are stranded 205,000 miles from Earth in a crippled spacecraft as they call “Houston, we have a problem”. The ground crew at Mission Control including astronaut Ken Mattingly and flight director Gene Kranz race against time and odds to bring them home. It’s a breathtaking adventure that tells a story of courage, faith and ingenuity that is all the more remarkable because it is true. This mesmerising film combines computer graphics, archive footage and seamless special effects to recreate the adrenalised odyssey of the astronauts who battled astronomical odds to make it back to Earth.
