Thursday 3rd of August 2006

SEASON TWO RELEASED ON DVD & ORIGINAL 1976 PILOT MOVIE RE-RELEASED

There’s no denying the popularity of Battlestar Galactica! It has thrilled generations of fans and now, for the first time, Season 2 is available to own on DVD. Starring Edward James Almos, Mary McDonnell and Katie Sackhoff, Battlestar Galactica Season 2 guarantees as much, if not more, action as its predecessor.

Battlestar Galactica tells the story of the definitive battle between the last surviving human colony and an evil robotic race – an epic journey of intergalactic survivors in search of a distant and unknown ‘planet earth’. It is up to the Battlestar Galactica, a recently decommissioned warship that has been turned into a flying museum, to save the human race and to divert the cylons from their path of destruction. Can Starbuck and the rest of the team save the world they hardly recognise…?

Season Two will be available to own on DVD from 28th August 2006. The 6 disc boxset contains 20 captivating episodes - providing over 14 ˝ hours of gripping entertainment and over 8 hours of bonus materials!

Battlesar Trivia…

  • The original series was nominated for two Golden Globes, and won an Emmy in 1979 for outstanding costume design.

  • The original TV series lasted for only 15 episodes between 1978 and 1979 and, although it rated well, it was pulled from the air because it was then the most expensive TV series ever made at $750,000 per episode, with the movie coming in at an estimated budget of $3,000,000.

  • For the 1979 film, the role of Starbuck (played by Dirk Benedict) was originally offered to Don Johnson.

  • The classic Cylons have also made cameo appearances on The Simpsons on several occasions. The most notable was in “Mayored to the Mob” during a sci-fi convention in which Centurions square off against R2-D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars in a boxing ring.

  • Glen A. Larson produced both the original Battlestar Galactica and Knight Rider. He incorporated the Cylon scanning moving eye into Knight Rider’s famous K.I.T.T. car.

  • In the original Battlestar Glactica series, Count Iblis’ name was derived from the Arabic word meaning “Satan”.

  • Dennis Haysbert, aka President Palmer from “24”, played the voice of the Imperious Leader, leader of the Cylon Alliance, in the original series.
