Set 500 years in the future, The Alliance, an oppressive Parliament controls human civilisation. They are willing to engage in any atrocity for the sake of a debatable greater good including scientific testing of a teenage girl, River (Summer Glau). Saved by her brother Simon (Sean Maher) the two fugitives hide onboard rebel transport ship Serenity.

Captained by Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds (Nathan Reynolds, Dracula 2000, Saving Private Ryan), Serenity takes on any job that will pay, even if it’s not exactly legal. His loyal crew includes his second in command and trusted ally, Zoë (Gina Torres, The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix Reloaded), her husband, the pilot, Wash (Alan Tudyk, Ice Age, 28 Days Later), mechanic Kaylee (Jewel Staite) and the muscle, Jayne (Adam Baldwin).

During a robbery with the crew, at which time Reavers (humans who have gone crazy and turned into cannibals) attack, the true extents of River’s powers are shown. Unbeknownst to the crew of Serenity, they having been hiding the psychic super-weapon of the Alliance, River, who has stumbled upon a secret no one is supposed to know, ‘Miranda’. The alliance will stop at nothing to see her returned and for the secret to be hidden again forever.
