Amazon.co.uk Review
Is there anything scarier than clowns? Of course not. And who knows scary better than Stephen King? You see where we're going. It puts a malevolent clown (given demented life by a powdered, red-nosed Tim Curry) front and center, as King's fat novel gets the TV-movie treatment. Even at three hours plus, the action is condensed, but an engaging Stand by Me vibe prevails for much of the running time. The seven main characters, as adolescents, conquered a force of pure evil in their Maine hometown. Now, the cackling Pennywise is back, and they must come home to fight him--or, should we say, It--again. Admitting the TV-movie trappings and sometimes hysterical performances, this is a genuinely gripping thriller. As so often with King, the basic idea (the bond formed during a childhood trauma) is clean and powerful, a lifeline anchored in reality that leads us to the supernatural. --Robert Horton

Stephen King's IT [VHS] [1990] Reviews
Stephen Kings IT
Review date: 2010-06-30 Rating: 8 out of 10
This is a classic Stephen King adaptation.
I remember watching this as a boy and i've never been right with clowns since...or storm drains.
This is a television...2 parter, many hours of film that mainly delve into the characters and how each of their lives are affected by an evil entity that lingers in the town of Derry, Maine.
Every thirty years or so, Pennywise the clown awakens to feed on the children of Derry. Feeding on their fear. One summer a group of outcast kids find themselves targets, victims of the pennywise (Tim Curry) and band together as friends for safety.
their childhoods are the first part of the film and Tim curry proves a terrifying character as the menacing Pennywise.
the second part is the gang at adulthood, after they have survived their ordeal and moved on to become actors and writers and all grownupie things. thirty years on however, pennywise is back...and hungry.
The film is dated now, but I have no doubt it will continue to terrify children everywhere.
There's just something about clowns!
Unbelievably Bad Acting
Review date: 2010-05-10 Rating: 4 out of 10
Having never read the book I was left completely bemused by the film plot and instead spent the whole film in stitches over the "Crossroads" school of acting performances. This is perhaps excusable in the kids but the adult actors were even worse
Great !

If you like a good horror and clowns don't scare you buy this.
Stephen King at his best, great adaptation from his book that keeps you on the edge of your seat as the story switches between past and present.
If clowns don't scare you Tim Curry's portrayl of Coco The Dancing Clown will ensure you don't want to see one in the dark ever again.
Definately not one to watch with the family if your children like circus's ;-)
Great Movie
Review date: 2010-04-17 Rating: 8 out of 10
I love Stephen Kings 'IT' it is a great book and scary however the film isn't. The film that is a tv movie (so what do you expect really they don't have a multi-million budget)and while it isn't nearly as good as the book it is still great to watch, I watch it regulary when I wanna pass time or if I can't sleep (but I always either fall asleep at the beginning parts or the end) or just for entertainment. Due to this being a tv movie no way would they be able to take the brillance of the book and turn it into a film and while I don't get to see many, many things that would make the movie really good and see all the mythology from the book (if you've read the book you know what I mean) yet the film is still great to watch. If you have watched the film, then read the book as many things you might be wondering will be answered. If you haven't read nor watched I suggest watch the film and then buy the book if you enjoy the movie you will not be disappointed.
Some of the things peope who have given the film 1star have said some of the things I've said, but someone said a certain part was pathetic, obviously this person wasn't listening to what Pennywise says ''Your never see me, your only see what your little minds can see'' so you should realise we never see the true Pennywise(read the book you know why), also someone said it has Racism in? Yeah because the 50's were a great time for blacks weren't they? Idiot, each child had there own meaning and reason which is why they formed the Loser Club, Mike is the lighthouse keeper who keeps watch over Derry and if it wasn't for him children would still be getting killed.
So apart from major plot holes and missing great parts the movie is still great to watch although to me is it a horror? No it is a friendship tale in a horror context really and while the book has lots of horror and sickness (I'm sure a certain scene had to be cut in a tv version as if you read the book you'd be like what the **** and have to re-read a part) it is really a friendship tale, friendship is a theme in a few King books e.g. The Body (Stand by me), Dreamcatcher, Cell and The Green Mile. Also bare in mind the film is a 15 gore is not to be expected.
