Tim Coates
Author: Tim Coates, £6.99 The official report into the Falklands Campaign follows - this is of less interest as it is a very brief overview of the major actions of the conflict, going into very little detail. The book finished with extracts from major debates during the conflict - following the invasion, the sinking of the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano, and the Argentine surrender.
Intriguing insight into political background to conflict
Review date: 2001-03-19 Rating: 6 out of 10
The book begins with the Official History of the Falklands, giving an overview up to 1904. It then effectively jumps to 1965, from which time the Franks report begins a detailed analysis of the diplomatic, political and intelligence occurrences until the Argentinean invasion in 1982. This is the most interesting section of the book, covering as it does the background to the conflict in much more detail than other sources.
