"Save the cheerleader, save the world!"
Review date: 2008-05-29 Rating: 6 out of 10

One of the great strengths of Heroes, like any good television show, is the score that goes with it - giving those memorable moments of leitmotif that get you sad, happy, excited and on the edge of your seat.
I was looking forward to the release of the original soundtrack but what we have here is not the soundtrack as such but a few criminally short cuts of the fantastic music by Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, and a load of tracks that are just like any current mix album.
The tracks actually from the show are: (1) Heroes theme (2) Fire And Regeneration - from when Claire saves the fire-fighter in the burning train (8) Natural Selection - used throughout the show (9) Abonecronedrone - used when Mohinder scatters his father's ashes and (13) Homecoming - from the episode of the same name.
The majority of the rest would probably appeal to the younger age market but out of all the other tracks the only one I liked was the last one, `Heroes' by David Bowie - and I've got that one already! I was also disappointed that the song `Eyes' by Rogue Wave which was used in the pilot wasn't on there.
The disc play list doesn't appear to have been taken from the show or taken any cues from the episodes themselves and is essentially one of those `music from and inspired by' album. On the inside cover Allan Arkush, one of the directors and producers of Heroes, says that this CD is basically the music that the creators and crew listen to when making the show. That's all well and good but you can't chuck and eclectic mix of songs together and call it the soundtrack for a series.
So, for those expecting more of the score I recommend you save your cash and avoid this one. Lets hope they release the proper `original soundtrack' soon.

Scrap the cover, listen to the music

Ok, it might not be an especially good piece of HEROES memorabilia, but it's got loads of very enjoyable songs on, from Panic at the Disco's dayglo cod-psychedelia and sub-Blondie (in a good way) New Pornographers to 'credible' Wilco and My Morning Jacket, with some elder statesmen like Bowie and Iggy thrown in.... plus the odd second of actual Wendy and Lisa tv show ambience. As a varied collection of moods and songs, it's great fun. It's almost a pity it's being put out under the auspices of a HEROES byproduct, rather than just as a random compilation, but the hell, I like both.

!?!?!?!?!?

the only thing i was looking for was Rogue Wave's wonderful song "eyes" and it isn't even on it. come on!!!!!

not happy!

Disappointment!

Unfortunately, this album is not what I expected. I am a huge fun of the show Heroes. What makes it more interesting is the music. As viewers, we would like to hear the music used in the show and that is why "Original Soundtrack" is released and we buy them. However, this is not the case with this soundtrack. There are exactly 4 tracks used in the show whereas the rest I have never heard in my life. One may buy this album but you will not find what you are looking (you know what I mean).

Avoid!!!

I'm a fan of the show, but this is a rubbish attempt to part fans from their hard earned cash. I was expecting an instrumental album not this mish mash. Did any of these tracks appear in the show? Apparently so. With the exception of the few bars of the opening credits and another "track" which must last, ooooh, what? about 5 seconds? there is nothing here I remember. Wasn't there enough instrumental music available to create a proper album?
OK rant over, if you're a fan you'll no doubt buy and love. If not find any Bowie album with "Heroes" on and enjoy.
