Elisha Cuthbert couldn't save the movie
Review date: 2009-12-22 Rating: 6 out of 10
As a Cuthbert- and sometimes-horror-movies fan this picture appeared to be obligatory to watch. I actually think the Elisha's acting is one of her best - that's why a +1 star review bonus ;) .
The movie itself could not cope with that. It is just too gross at times when less would have been more. Also the supposed-to-be thrilling scenes are just plain hectic. What is also a little ennerving is that it is always pretty darkish. Well, they are locked in a kind of basement, so this is realistic. On the other hand you saw movies where actors ran through the woods at night and the light was better.
Not being a particular fan of the actors/director or a collector, you might wanna consider simply borrowing the movie or look for a bargain.

Very poor
Review date: 2009-09-04 Rating: 4 out of 10
With so many other films in the torture-horror genre in recent years, was there really any need for CAPTIVITY? After watching this the other evening I have to say...not really.
Well the story isn't too bad - Elisha Cuthburt plays a model who is drugged and kidnapped before having to endure many disturbing tests and games at the hands of a sick and twisted killer. I did however see the twist in middle coming from a mile off and had no shock or surprise in the slightest when it happened. The ending was also unimaginative and drawn-out, despite the film's short 85 minute run-time that it left me completely un-thrilled overall. The acting was pretty poor in all honesty. Cuthburt has always been a not to bad actress in 24 and she was also ok in HOUSE OF WAX but in this it felt like she was over-acting so much to the point where it was laughable, which is surprising as the amount of scenes in earlier seasons of 24 that she has been in where her character has been kidnapped, I'd of thought she'd be used to this role now!
The picture quality on this Blu Ray transfer is also very poor, being very grainy and jagged. I really wouldn't waste your time or money on this, if you're into these types of films check out any of the SAW films, HOSTEL or UNTRACEABLE as they are all much better.

POOR ATTEMPT
Review date: 2009-04-24 Rating: 4 out of 10
to follow the endless flow of "torture porns" spawned by the HOSTEL and SAW films. CAPTIVITY doesn't feature as much graphical violence as its counter pieces. The main part of the movie takes place in the torturing chambers, as Elisha Cuthbert is captured after only 10 minutes.
CAPTIVITY could have been more, but utterly fails to deliver. It cannot maintain any of the suspense or tension it builds up, and the "surprise" they included is not really a surrise at all.
The UK version features the less explicit American Theatrical cut version (R-Rated) of the film. The Unrated version is available in the States.
Grisly mess
Review date: 2009-02-05 Rating: 4 out of 10
Thought this title looked great in the advert, but on watching it, realised that it's just an excuse for gore and gristle, with some disinctly unpleasant and uncomfortable moments. Unimpressed.
