Life on Mars
ReviewsNot Bad but... Review date: 2007-10-27 Rating: 8 out of 10 This is a good album but so easily could have been a great album, as other reviewers have said there are songs that should have been included that haven't and thats a shame as the two most notibale absentees ("Baba O'Riley" by The Who and "Jean Genie" by David Bowie) are both memorable and integral parts of the series soundtrack. That been said if you want to kick back and listen to a pretty well put together 70's compilation, even if your foolishly not a fan of the show then this is definately worth buying. Fantastic sounds of the 70s Review date: 2007-10-24 Rating: 8 out of 10 This is a great soundtrack to probably one of the most consistently stylish and inventi shows in recent historty of the BBC - standouts on the album include "Rock On" (TRex), "Live and Let Die", "I had a dream", "Time Traveller" and of course "Life On Mars". Strangely a number of tracks that featured prominently in episodes were ommitted including Elton John's "Rocket Man" which is the subject of an extended discussion paralleling Sam's feelings of being hurled onto 'a different planet' with the experience of Ugandan Asian immigrants in 1970s Britain. Other notable tracks missing included Bowie's the "Gene Genie" and "Changes". Still a fantastic album and a must have for fans of the series who are partial to great music. very fun compilation Review date: 2007-05-01 Rating: 10 out of 10 Great musical moments from various episodes. I was a bit disappointed that some of the hauntingly beautiful score from the series was not included, thank goodness at least the main theme (including John Simm's vocal intro and the mixed-in sound effects) was added as a 'hidden track'. A great 70's compilation Review date: 2007-04-27 Rating: 10 out of 10 This is a great '70s album which invokes memories of such a fantastic series when you listen it. The track listings speak for themselves, I wouldn't be surprised if they release a 'part two' soundtrack album as there was so much fantastic music in the series and not all could fit onto this one release. As well as musical tracks, there are snippets of dialogue from the series, and a hidden track at the end (which is the fab theme tune to the series). If you're a fan of the series, a fan of good music, or both - this is great album to put on in the car and enjoy on the way to work. This isn't just a gimmicky "album to the TV series" as it contains a lot of very strong tracks (T-Rex, Bowie, ELO, Thin Lizzie, etc).
