Star Wars Episode VI:Return Of The Jedi (Limited Edition, Includes Theatrical Version) [1983]
Disc 2 - Original Version:2.0 Dolby Surround sound and is 2.35:1 letterbox within a 4x3 picture Disc 2 is THX, ensuring the highest possible quality picture and sound ReviewsExcellent Review date: 2008-03-22 Rating: 8 out of 10 The 1983 film remains cracking to watch especially to see the bizarre decisions the filmakers made to resolve Star Wars. The scale of all the spaceships is amazing to behold. There is excellent use of theatrical pantomime and contrast. We are dramatically re-introduced to Lord Vader. When the Emperor arrives, we see enormous numbers of stormtroopers and spaceships swarming in to greet him. This is where the film becomes epic. The film also goes through some excellent worlds and we meet some funny characters. The Limited Edition DVD is out for a 'limited time only'. This DVD contains two discs. The 'bonus' disc contains a 1983-ish version - that is the one you want to watch. I say 'ish' because I have no idea if it is the exact original or the slightly remastered one released in the 1990s in VHS format. The other disc contains a 'digitally remastered movie'- in which Lucas basically brings the film into high definition, adds scenes, embellishes things, and in which criticised Australian actor Hayden Christensen unecessarily appears at the end. Good movie, shame about the ewoks Review date: 2008-01-26 Rating: 8 out of 10 Another Star Wars classic although its a shame the ewoks wernt masacred. The final battle between Luke and Vader is what makes this film and the appearence of the Emporer is hugely enjoyable. I would of given this movie 5 out of 5 but them bloody Ewoks!!! ....... hate Ewoks man, hate Ewoks. ..... putting my hatred of Ewoks aside, dont watch the re-mastered version as this DVD has the original version on it and it is by far the superior version to watch. In short the re-mastered version sucks, especially the inclusion of some kind of over the top MTV moment with a hugely expanded musical number in Jabba the Huts court. Who the hell came up with that idea?? What do they take us for? Brain-dead Idiots!! If this DVD only had the re-mastered version i'd give it 3/5 but as the original is on here as well, id give it 4/5 ...... now all they need to do is re-master them bloody ewoks out of the movie and it could get 5/5. Ho ho hoo ho ho... Review date: 2008-01-22 Rating: 10 out of 10 I remember seeing Return of the Jedi in my local Odeon when I was a sprog, loved it then and still love it now. The first half of the movie in Jabba's palace is superb, years later I'm still seeing creatures in the background I've never seen before! You've also got the original Max Rebo band song in this version too. The best of the saga - shame on the new releases! Review date: 2007-08-28 Rating: 10 out of 10 When someone mentions this film, theirs only one moment to remember for me, and thats the final fight. Their have been so many films that try to capture a moment of intense emotion and feeling, but few compare to Luke Skywalkers thrashing of Darth Vader. (sorry, but you haven't seen this film yet.. where have you been??) Theirs a short moment when The Sith spites him to carry on releasing his anger, and I alwasy feel goosebumbs when Luke just runs out of the dark, and almost kills his father. Probably one of the best finale's to a film in cinematic history, coupled with the brilliant soundtrack. I guess i've got carried away now! This film is likely to be the best of the saga for more of a moral reason that you can't deny. This film is the fight back for the rebels! If like me you feel that the 2nd installment (of the originals), The Empire Strikes Back, was a little dark with, what I thought, was a strange final moment at the end, then this turns it around. Throughout, their is a sense of positive emotions, because you know Luke, Leia, and all the rest of the rebels are fighting back. And with the brighter mood comes more location, from an 'earth-y' looking woodland, to a sand-pit where Luke is sent to be killed! Its such an action packed film that you just have to like it. It also ties up some loose ends, like Han Solo discovering who Luke's sister is.. the most heartwarming moment is likely to be the final cut of the movie, in which all the rebels have a party in the woodland, and Luke is watched over by all the good side of the force in ghost form. I've always said its the music that does it, and I won't take that back! This DVD included both the original cinema release and the new, cleaned up release from about 1997. Once you compare both, you won't touch the original - its actually quite degrading! What more can I say? Buy it!
