EVE
Review date: 2007-09-15 Rating: 4 out of 10

OK, my mistake. I bought this and a friend introduced me to EVE online a week later. Why you'd choose this over EVE (with better graphics, better trading, and way more immersive MMORPG design) is beyond me.
I should have saved my money for the monthly fees.

I dont get it... :S
Review date: 2007-05-23 Rating: 6 out of 10

I dont See how this game would be very enjoyable to any one. Fair enough if your reading this thinking "WTF? What an idiot, this game rules!" But this is what I think.

Pretty Graphics, nothing spectacular but it is pleasing to the eye.

Gameplay I could see working... But i didnt see it working... The campaign is extremely slow, and WAY to hard to follow. I got about an hour into it, then i was ment to be following some womens ship, So i was for a bit, then got distracted by a trading station so i docked and brought stuff, undocked, And the woman was NO WHERE to be seen. I had no idea what to do... at all :S. So i was stuck alone in space with no indication of where to go!

So i tried the free story (or what ever it was called) and theres no indication of where to start :S. I traded a couple of things from station to station which took me about half an hour and i only gained a bit of money. Theres no way i can see anyone would enjoy going back and forth slowly gaining money from scratch like that. I dont understand!

Any ways, as i said others may like it. But this is My reveiw :p

I would avoid this to be honest!

A great game, with plenty of flaws.

Having played all of the previous X games, when I saw X3 game of the year edition, I was quite excited! I had been nervous about buying the game in it's early stages because I thought it would probably be extremely buggy. It was.

The game of the year edition claims to have fixed all those issues, but I can tell you it does not. The game is already a version behind, requiring a 30Mb download to bring it up to date. On my system it was unplayable without the update, suffering major graphics issues. I have spent a lot of time since buying it updating all my drivers and making adjustments to my system based on tips on the forum. The forum on the Egosoft website gives some clue as to how buggy the game is. There are literally thousands of posts asking about technical problems. Even after so much effort, the game is still barely playable.

However, from what I have seen, it is excellent. This is a huge leap forward from X2, many of the most frustrating issues have been fixed. Visually it is excellent and the gameplay is much improved. I feel confident that eventually I will be able to play it, as most people seem to be able to solve their problems.

Overall, this is an excellent game, but I could not recommend it to anyone that doesn't know plenty about computers. If you like games to be playable out of the box, then steer clear. If you're prepared to sink hours of faffing around into setting up the game in return for a thoroughly enjoyable experience, then order it immediately.

Starforce removed with latest version
Review date: 2007-04-23 Rating: 10 out of 10

quote from the egosoft forums:

"With the release of 2.0.1, X³ no longer requires the physical media nor Starforce in order to run.

Be aware that removing Starforce may cause other applications that require it to cease functioning, in which case they would need reinstalling.

If you wish to install X³ without installing Starforce, the procedure is as follows:
Install X³ 1.0 from the CDs/DvD. Do not run the game! Apply the 1.0 -> 2.0.1 patch. Run the game.
This will prevent Starforce from installing unneccesarily, as it does not install until you run the game for the first time."

Great Game but could can get Boring
Review date: 2007-04-11 Rating: 8 out of 10

This game is a brilliant game, the graphics are stunning and the game is of the right sought of difficulty (in terms of the missions), but it can get very tedious flying from sector to sector as it can take ages to cross the larger sectors. At the beginning of the game you have a limited map and you have to discover more sectors by flying to them, this can take an awfully long time. Another problem I had with it is it takes ages to build up enough reputation and money to buy another ship or a space station.
Other than that though this game is amazing and if you can get it for under 20 quid its defiantly worth it.
