Earth 2160 (PC)
ReviewsThe Battle of Earth 2150 to Earth 2160! Review date: 2007-03-29 Rating: 8 out of 10 This was supposed to be the great conclusion of Earth 2150 [1999]! As I said Earth 2150... ... well what can I say now? Its a few years old now, obviously not really desirable to be played due to the lack of modern specs. However I Believe that Earth 2160 lost all that I loved in Earth2150; Kick ass music, not totally difficult to raise a might large arm, which you could customize depending on you foes. Relatively large amounts of resource with which to build you civilization. But ohhhhh... noo... they decided to pimp it up... Yeahh ok I like pimped stuff, but this totally went way to far, to much idea in one game, the new race the Aliens for an example. Nearly ever player is bamboozled by them, you clone a basic none aggressive unit (NAU) or make an aggressive unit then on and on. Everyone loses track of want they have currently, and you got a tank platoon raining, Plasma, Explosives, and not to even mention the Ballistic missiles the ED's (The European Dynasty, normal tanks) beefing the hell out of you NAU. I was immensely suppressed about it, the ED you need to build too much, and every other race you build three builds twice and your home free. Like I said in the above, the quality music in Earth 2150 has been replaced by "light tripe" I totally loved the Walker tanks (UCS, United Civilized States) because of their guitar solo in start and mid battle. Also resources are extremely low, it's a mad rush to assault and control them. On the other hand, the graphics are well and truly superb, as the game can render the player with the soldier's/Tank's/Jet's own point of view... Literally! The terrain formations are well flawless, really close up and from a distance. And before each race poses their own abilities, in addiction there are three types of resources to be collected: Water; Metal; and Crystals- -LC (Luna Corp.) Cry. n Water. -ED Metal n water -UCS Metal n Cry -Aliens N/A (I've not really every played as them, as they are a might confusing at first, I didn't like to attempt them a second time) Overall a brilliant and different sort of game... unfortunately that's why this not my favourite or in my top50 It highly recommendable by most, but to be blunt, I fail to see what's so great about it. A big let down... I guess you shouldn't play Earth 2150 and play Earth 2160. I possible just expected a little too much! Very Good Game Review date: 2006-12-09 Rating: 8 out of 10 When I got this game I was very surprised at the level of detail on the box its self. There's a battery pack that flashed 2 lights (stars). Though that's a bit short lived. It also contains a Sound track to the game all an added bonus. The game its self is highly detailed runs rather smoothly, you'll find you self wanting to zoom in and watching the battles from you soldiers point of view. Game play is a little different; the learning curve is steep and even after a few weeks you wont understand most because it doesn't tell you early on how to play the other two factions. Voice acting isn't as bad as I thought and to be honest is reasonable for a Build and destroy/RTS game. The campaign contains a general story line that is pieced together and isn't great. But with the general game play and graphics makes its bearable. The life time of this game is extended further than the campaign with the addition of a skirmish mode, which is one of the things I use the most on any game of this type, and makes it worth its money. Fun for awhile but gets boring quick Review date: 2006-09-03 Rating: 2 out of 10 This game was fun to stat with but it soon become boring, mainly cos soem missions are really easy then teh next mission is very very difficult. Plus to start with only 2 or teh 4 campains are open to you, which isnt too bad, but if u want to play a skimish mission with the other 2 civs u cant cos its hard to work out how to play wiht them. can be challenging but annoying. Review date: 2006-03-02 Rating: 6 out of 10 The designers of this game claim it plays mainly off the graphics card (whatever that means!). Your system may run high-end FPS games such as half-Life 2 or Quake 4 beautifully, but if you don't have a state-of-the-art video graphics card, in order to obtain a reasonable frame-rate, you'll have to turn down the resolution until the game feels and looks like computer games of ten years ago. There are bugs aplenty and serious flaws in the AI; in the LC campaign, for instance, heroine Ariah will unfailingly rush headlong into the attack against overwhelming odds and get killed, even when repeatedly directed to stop or go to another location. The only way to protect her is to immobilise her on a hilltop in an aerial unit. This is stupid! as is the inability of infantry or armoured units to climb even the simplest obstacles. Gameplay maps are extremely basic - there should be a random terrain generator or at least double the number of maps to make the Skirmish games interesting. Campaign gameplay alternates between dull games that a Chimpanzee could win in minutes and horrifyingly difficult games that take weeks (for me at least) to work out a viable strategy. The scripting is also absurd. Having said that, the skirmish games can be a challenge when combatting three opponents in medium or hard mode, and no doubt it is interesting enough to play online. Online help is non-existant and despite being on the market more than six months, there's still no "walkthrough" available; either it's considered too hard or too boring!
