"What makes us worthy of survival?"
Review date: 2007-10-06 Rating: 10 out of 10

When the Sci-Fi channel relaunched their new vision of Battlestar Galactica they made sure that they had all aspects of the show done right. Music makes up a huge part of any series and when it's done wrong it can ruin a whole show. However, Battlestar Galactica had no such problems when Richard Gibbs composed this amazing soundtrack.
This disc encompasses the entire score from the mini-series pilot giving you over 67 minutes of fantastic music.
With the use of a lot of eastern instruments, Taiko drums, flutes and strings, you get a soundtrack of theatrical quality that draws you into the world you see on the screen.
The music suits the more military nature of the series without falling into the stereotypical bombastic style and provides the listener with a great orchestral score which sweeps you along.
The music is haunting (Are You Alive?), beautiful (To Kiss Or Not To Kiss), moving (Apollo Is Gone) and dramatic (Battle).
A brilliant piece of music for fans of the show or just anyone who loves a good 'movie' score. If you enjoyed this, then check out the other Battlestar Galactica soundtracks for more amazing tunes.
So, pop it in your CD player, press play and launch when ready!

Evocative
Review date: 2007-10-01 Rating: 10 out of 10

Dark, thrilling and suprising, the score for the outstanding reimagining of BG is remarkable if only judged separately. Eastern modalities mix with Japansese kodo drumming to create a powerful, evocative listening experience. Orchestra is combined with synthesiser and eastern instruments, and Gibbs writing for soprano is remiscent of Lisa Gerrard (and you can't say higher than that).

Bear McCreary's scores for the series that followed build brillaintly on Gibbs work, further and introducing new unexplored vistas (the CDs come highly recommended).

the best

This has to be one of the best sci fi soundtracks that I have ever heard in my life. The music is hauntingly beautiful and really sets the scene for the mini series. They use alot of strange instrument not often heard together but it works spectacularly well.

If I could only have one album on a desert island then it would be this one.

Buy it but watch the mini series first.

This is one of the best sound tracks that I have heard for a long time.

This has tumultous music and relaxing yet errie themes. The Series is fantastic and this music suits the show down to the ground.

Buy it and enjoy. It is well worth it.

Simply stunning

I don't think you need to have seen the latest mini-series (now fully fledged series just starting on Sky) to enjoy this soundtrack but I imagine that it does help you put the pieces into context. I had just came back here to see if Richard had been involved in anything else lately (or composed anything for the new series) so thought I should recommend this album to the passers by. A beautiful instrumental album mixed with complementary vocal harmonies, "Storm and the Dead" is a perfect example and my favourite track. I'm looking forward to hearing more of his work.
