Reviews"I'M CALM!" Review date: 2008-02-14 Rating: 8 out of 10 You either like Adam Sandler or you don't but you must love Jack Nicholson! Anger Management pits the two men together as David (Adam Sandler) gets himself ordered to enter an anger management programme after 'assaulting' an airline stewardess. Enter the man who runs the course none other than the brilliant Jack Nicholson as Buddy. The humour stems from the fact that Buddy seems to be more nutty and rude than the generally soft spoken David. Like I said, you either like Adam Sandler's humour or not. I thought it was a reasonably entertaining movie and it does have an interesting plot twist which is rare in most modern comedies. Dull predictable plot. without so much as a single joke in it! Review date: 2007-11-09 Rating: 2 out of 10 i love Adam Sandler and feel Jack Nicholson has done some great work too. So why didnt this movie do anything for me? Because it has a terrible script. The two main characters are guilty of making a bad decision in agreeing to play this movie, other than that there is nothing they could be reasonably expected to do that would drag this pitiful excuse for a comedy out of the mire of platitudes and sanctimonious psychological clap trap that the writer saw fit to put together and call a movie script! It relies heavily on Nicholson's ability to play a nutter and Sandler's ability to play the cute fool next door. Sadly with this script holding them back the guys dont even get out of the starting gate. What was Sony thinking, throwing good money at this script? The only people to get anything out of this are the actors and tech folk who got paid. Dont waste your money, if you really want to see it, rent it. Hysterical and Intelligent Comedy Review date: 2007-09-13 Rating: 10 out of 10 Wow, this movie is so much fun. It's brilliantly acted of course, by Nicholson and Sandler, but it's also full of Oscar winners, politicians, and sports stars turning up in surprise bit parts and walk-ons (won't tell you who, or it will spoil the fun). The humour is slapstick, but it also hits home and dishes up heaping plates full of home truths about self esteem and empowerment. So, yes, in a way, it is a goofy funny ballsy self-help movie. But, putting all that stuff aside, it is just seriously funny. Everyone I know who has seen it has been knocked sideways laughing and just had a great time. Yes, the comedy has a dark twist, but this keeps it all from getting out of hand. Overall, it is totally feel-good fare and just lots of fun. Highly recommended, especially if you are feeling kind of low and could use a good supportive pat on the back and a good laugh. It will cure your ills -- "I feel pretty!" Have fun! A MATCH WHICH I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE - ADAM SANDLER AND JACK NICHOLSON Review date: 2007-08-19 Rating: 8 out of 10 During the past few years, director Peter Segal showed the world he can work wonders with the popular comedian Adam Sandler. Sandler, usually a rather one dimensional actor that enjoys playing himself on screen (a thing he does quite well, if I might say so myself), blossomed in numerous sub-genres under the hands of Segal, showing he can be romantic as hell (50 First Dates), charismatic (The Longest Yard) and most important - irresistibly cranky (Anger Management). In this comedy powerhouse, Sandler's popular tend to breakdown is boosted with the help of one Jack Nicholson, movie legend and an astonishingly funny actor on his own right. Nicholson's collaboration with Sandler proves he really should be doing more comedies, as their encounter creates many hilarious moments. The plot, in short, revolves around Dave Buznik (Sandelr), your average Joe that has a very short temperament that costs him his freedom. After breaking down on a plane, he's teamed up with Dr. Buddy Rydell (Nicholson), an anger management guru with some psychotic issues of his own. Rydell follows Buznik's every move, making his condition only worse and driving him to the edge. This results in some hysterically funny encounters with the law and with unsuspected civilians caught up in the mix. It also reaches a climax in one of my favorite comedic moments of recent years, when Rydell forces Buznik to sing The Westside Story's "I Feel Pretty" while blocking the traffic on a crowded bridge. On a more personal note, I would like to add that I've seen Anger Management several days after an acquaintance of mine, himself a comedian, was killed in a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was comforting to snap back to reality with an uplifting feature that puts many things in life in just the right proportions.
