Amazon.co.uk Review

With sidesplitting dialogue and rampant profanity, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back reunites Kevin Smith's dynamic duo in supreme lowbrow style. It's the fifth comedy in Smith's celebrated New Jersey "trilogy". Here Quick-Stop potheads Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) wreak vengeance on Hollywood, where Miramax is making a "Bluntman & Chronic" feature inspired by J and SB, but without their permission. En route from Jersey to La La Land, Jay and his "hetero lifemate" encounter sexy jewel thieves (including the delightful Shannon Elizabeth), a precocious orang-utan, a dimwit wildlife marshal (Will Ferrell), and a non-stop parade of in-jokes, harmless (yet controversial) gay jokes, and splendid celebrity cameos. While gently biting the Miramax hand that feeds him, and paying affectionate homage to the Star Wars saga, Smith sheds all inhibitions to give Jay and Silent Bob a stellar send off that's nasty, sassy and undeniably hilarious. --Jeff Shannon

The craziest comic duo return.
Review date: 2008-04-07 Rating: 8 out of 10

Perhaps the funniest Kevin Smith film upto now. Jay and Silent Bob return, this time as the leading characters of their own movie. Other characters make pleasant yet brief returns. This film is more whacky than any other Kevin Smiths pervious movies, but be warned its not for everyone. If your a foul-mouthed, pot smoking, comic loving, red-bloodied male .... then this film will be hard to dislike. If you like more sutble and tasteful comedy ... then maybe this isnt for you.

Out of all Kevin Smiths films that I have watched, this is the best yet.

No! Don't pander to the masses!
Review date: 2007-06-01 Rating: 6 out of 10

Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, Chasing Amy - genius films.

And then this...

..it just doesn't compare.

I got the impression that this film was made to get more of a mainstream "American Teen Movie" audience, which it did I suppose. Hopefully this will have got people into the other Kevin Smith films, at least there's a silver lining.

Jay and Silent Bob are great characters in small doses, or as part of a larger cast. But the humour seemed thinly spread. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy certain parts of this film immensely, but overall it was overshadowed by the more intelligent View Askew films that came before it (and Clerks II after it).

If you like Kevin Smith films then get this. You will probably enjoy it, but like me, you may find it just doesn't flex your Kevin Smith muscle as much as the others. It feels like the two characters people often think of when Kevin Smith is mentioned, were given their own film just for the sake of cashing in on a wider audience. Thankfully, Kevin Smith managed to reign supreme again with Clerks II a few years later.

One Man Who Never Shuts Up and Another Who Never Speaks

I'm a big Kevin Smith, View Askewniverse fan but why would anyone in there right mind make a movie about two characters like this?

Jay and Bob are secondary characters at best. Dogman shows that they can play a big part of the story but even then they were still secondary characters, in every other View Askew movie they have only been minor roles.

Jay and Bob should never go above minor characters unless the movie is as amazing as Dogma was.

The worst one yet
Review date: 2007-03-03 Rating: 2 out of 10

I HATED this film. It's the most unintelligent out of all of them. What I love about his films is the intelligent dialouge and the sense of thought behind every thing. This goes away whenever Jay and Silent Bob come on screen. And a whole film about them which was over stared and over budgeted was a waste of Kevin Smith's creativity. It's also why it did so well. The general public are stupid. They like any film that they don't have to think about. Anyone who rates this the best is a bit of a no brainer and you shouldn't bother with kevin smith films. You should stick to family guy or something.

A FUNNY FILM
Review date: 2007-02-20 Rating: 8 out of 10

I had always wanted to watch this but never got round to it so while out shopping one day I saw it and bought it. I watched it last night and thought it was funny but not as funny as people hyped it up to be.

Jay & Silent Bob came from a film called Clerks as two stoners just hanging outside Dante's Store. Each of Kevin Smith's films interlock which I never knew.

Packed with stars including Ben Affleck (Pearl Harbor), Matt Damon (The Bourne Supremacy), Chris Rock (Lethal Weapon 4), Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie), Jason Lee (Almost Famous and more.

When best buddies Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) discover that a major motion picture is being based on their likenesses, they head for Hollywood to claim the big movie money they deserve. But when the dopey duo learn that they have been cut out of the cash, they set out to sabotage the flick at all costs.

There are too many people who star in cameos in this film to name them all so I won't bother. The DVD is packed with special features as is many of Kevin Smith's film and it's a double disc DVD so you have deleted scenes, gag reel, behind the scenes, music video's and more.

I thought this was funny in a slapstick way but it was more immature then Clerks and what I didn't mind at the beginning got beyond a joke towards the end and that was the movie references that was made through out the film and it might be funny to some people but I didn't like it towards the end. The age rating is an 18 due to strong language and sex references but they are funny in a childish sort of way. The film is also 1 hr 40 mins.

So if you are thinking of watching it turn off your brain and enjoy this funny comedy for what it is.

Thank you for reading my review.
