Being a huge fan of the books by George R R Martin "A Song of Ice and Fire", i immediately bought this game when i saw it was based on them. Being a casual board game player i was truly excited when the game arrived and upon first playing it, it didnt disappoint!

Set in the fantasy world of Westeros each player takes control of 1 of 5 of the great Houses and sets about attempting to take control of the majority of Westeros through armies, diplomacy and resource management. The game is along the lines of Risk and Diplomacy but involving a far smaller chance of luck and instead more skill and diplomacy needed. I have played A Game of Thrones several times since buying it and not once have i grown bored of it, or found the game was too similar to the last time i played.

Although 3-5 players are needed to play, the game works best with 5 and it does require up to 4 hours to complete, but it is definately worth the time invested into it. The game components themselves are beutifully manufactured with an extremely large playing board depicting the continent of Westeros and coloured wooden figurines for troops. Even if you havent read the books if your interested in strategic, diplomatic games this is a must buy!
