Good but not for the novice!
Review date: 2007-07-22 Rating: 8 out of 10

There is no doubt about it this is an excellent book for anyone with an interest and acquired knowledge of the blues, however, I would not recommend it for anyone who has no prior knowledge on the subject because this book would be hard work. For those who have just taken an interest and would like to learn more I would suggest reading Nigel Williamson's 'Rough Guide To The Blues' or Bill Wyman's 'Blues Odyssey' before attempting to read this book. Having said that for those already knowledgeable this book provides an excellent insight into the early development of the blues and the quest of Alan Lomax. It is also a good eye opener to the depth of early racial prejudice in the deep south.
