Empathise with the Dark Lord...
Review date: 2008-05-03 Rating: 8 out of 10
I enjoyed this - i really liked how the author put you into the mind of the newly rebuilt Vader & the way his existence in that life support suit is described.
There's some interesting scenes involving Vader's relationship with his master, Emperor Palpatine - The resentment is starting to ferment...
Also the book's closing scenes where Obi Wan, now residing on Tatooine, learns the true fate of his former padewan will chill to the bone!
A very decent follow up to The Revenge Of The Sith...Bring on the TV series..

Should have been better

I was really hoping for a true Darth Vader novel; a story about the inner man and his suffering following his fall to the dark side and his final conflict with Obi-Wan and the injuries he suffered. I had been expecting a very dark story about his pain and despair and instead much of it was in the style of nearly all Darth Vader stories, a vaguely menacing protagonist without much depth and some fairly disposable characters for him to destroy. We really do need a much more grown-up story about one of the most effective villains every created.
Major disappointment

There are several problems with this book beginning with the sad fact that there is no real story, just a loosely woven collection of vignettes featuring a collection of minor characters that are best forgotten. Vader never develops as a result of any of the events depicted between this book's covers, although the author claims that Vader makes a major breakthrough in understanding the darkside. Unfortunately, we're never shown why, how, or what that possibly means.
Secondly, the book is populated with minor characters (Vader isn't introduced until nearly page 50) that are really nothing more than fodder for the Dark Lord, characters that are stood up only so they can be knocked down. Except for their names, they are indistinguishable.
Which speaks to the major shortcoming of this book, the very poor writing. I was never once "drawn" into any of the scenes or the lives of the characters. The writing was flat, the characters d.o.a., and the story missing in action.
The True Nature Of Darth Vader
Review date: 2006-05-18 Rating: 8 out of 10
I enjoyed this book. I found it very interesting to find out more about Darth Vader's beginnings in the suit, his relationship with the Emperor now that he was damaged goods and not the apprentice he had wished for. The book gives an insight to why Vader does not take the Emperor on and rule the Galaxy himself. I was not too interested in the unknown Jedi who are the main part of the story when I started reading the book, but once I got into the story, I grew to like them and enjoyed seeing the Jedi come to terms with the events unfolding throughout the Galaxy - especially when they come head to head with the Mysterious Dark Warrior with the crimson blade.
If you are a fan of Star Wars like me, then this book is a very good add on to the story.
Sith comes Alive

This one of the best books i have read in my entire life!It covers all Episode 3 information and has excellent colour pictures. However not all information is true.George Lucas has said himself that Darth Vader can use force lightening yet in here it sais he couldnt because of his arms.False.But it is still a superb book no doubt.Get it.
