Amazon.co.uk Review

Call this "The Odd Couple Goes to the White House". Jack Lemmon and James Garner play ex-presidents in My Fellow Americans lousy comedy, each of them having served only one term as chief executive and each the other's lifelong enemy. The best jokes in the film are front-loaded into the first five minutes. We meet both men living life after the White House, one (Lemmon) making speeches for whoever will front his large fee, while the other (Garner) writes relevant books no one reads. Any time they show up at the same function, they insult each other like snarling schoolboys. It is pretty funny, but after a brief introduction My Fellow Americans goes downhill rapidly, becoming yet another stupid road movie travelled by characters who hate each other. (How many of these is Lemmon going to make?) The jokes get dumber and cruder, the actors embarrass themselves, and the whole enterprise becomes tedious. --Tom Keogh

When will this great film be released in region 2!
Review date: 2007-02-11 Rating: 10 out of 10

This must be my all time favorite James Garner film and Jack Lemmon is great as well. They play to Ex-USA Presidents who only served one term each. They miss the job and all that goes with it.

The film sees the two presidents realize they have an enemy within the new government and set out to find evidence that will clear their names. A great Sunday afternoon film and a must for any DVD collection.

The story covers several years and three presidencies. First Lemmon, then Garner and now Aykroid. Vice President Ted Matthews (John Heard) is a dunce. Turns out rumors of a scandal are surfacing and the now president is having thoughts of pining the scandal on Lemmon who was president at the time. Joe Hollis (Wilford Brimley) the head of the opposition party wants to pin it on the present administration. Col. Paul Tanner will protect the secret at any cost. There are many more players, too numerous to mention. Seems that someone has determined that Lemmon and Garner are best dispatched.

Will this happen?
Can they clear their names?
And not just who is behind the plot, but what is the plot?

Watch out for Blinky.

This movie has a sound mystery base to get us through the twists and turns with lots of "who's behind it" moments. However the interaction between Garner and Lemmon is so much fun that sometimes we forget the plot.

This is a hugely entertaining family film with James Garner and Jack Lemmon driven by circumstance to work together to avoid being killed by the Secret Service. They really spark off each other as the ex presidents who despised each other in office and aren't any happier with each other now. There is, of course, a happy ending and this doesn't detract from the films enjoyment at all.

Lemmon and Garner are funny as ever
Review date: 2001-04-17 Rating: 8 out of 10

The comedy relationship between the two main stars (Lemmon and Garner) in this film is almost as good as the relationships between Lemmon + Matthau. The film shows how funny the two actors can still be. The film sees the two former presidents realize they have an enemy within the government and set out to find evidence that will clear their names. The funniest part of the film is when they find themselves marching in a gay pride parade. A must for any Jack Lemmon fan.
