Kingpin vs Knights
Review date: 2008-12-21 Rating: 8 out of 10
This volume starts just after everything that happened in the clone wars. May is still in the hospital and has told Peter that once she gets out she will be having words with him about being Spiderman, which happens at the end of this set. Mary Jane is happy that she is back with Peter and the pair are happy but with the arrival of Kitty to their school things have suddenly become very difficult for the three of them.
Meanwhile, Daredevil has had enough with the Kingpin and gets a team together to take him out. He recruits Spiderman by meeting Peter at his school which gets things for the pair off to a bad start. As Moon Knight goes undercover to work for the Kingpin he is ordered to bring Spiderman to the Kingpin, however due to Moon Knight's multiple personalities things don't go as smooth as Daredevil had hoped.
Though most of this volume isn't important to the main plot line for the Ultimate Spiderman it is fun to read and very entertaining with some of the heroes turning to villians. The Ultimates are a different look at all the charaters and I think for some of the characters it is a great make over. Daredevil especially, he is a lot meaner and darker than the original.
Reviews
More quality Bendis
Review date: 2007-11-18 Rating: 8 out of 10
I almost wanted to hate this, simply because i felt i was buying too much Bendis and i'm not sure if thats good for you. So, im sorry to say that this is, again, another excellent read. Everything that you would expect from a quality Bendis book is here, witty dialogue, great pacing and spot on characterization. This is the current artists last book and i'm hoping they may go for a real change, as i've never been a big fan of the art on this (and a lot of the other Ultimate titles). The story lines have always deserved something a little more gritty and realistic, but thats just me and i'm sure they'd be plenty of others who disagree. My only gripe with the book is the treatment of Moon Knight, the introduction of a further personality of a 10 year old girl just wasn't gelling for me. I have missed a few books so there may be an explanation, but i'm not sure i'm buying it whatever it is. Still, that withstanding, this is just great entertainment.
