Unbelievable!
Review date: 2008-09-01 Rating: 4 out of 10
Had this writer not taken himself, and his plot so seriously, and had he been given a story editor with the guts to trim 692 pages down to 400 - then this would have been a fun "airport novel". As it is, Folsom has been allowed to publish what reads as a self indulgent first draft. He can write action - and build up suspense - but he can't get under the skin of his characters - and when he tries - it just falls apart. If you're reading this Mr. Folsom - then please - next time - less is more. Stick to action and keep the pace up - and cut the introspection.
Reviews
This is truly dreadful

I picked this up in a second hand bookshop the other day, and have never read such utter drivel. I quite like thrillers, generally, even ones with stupid plots and bad characters as this one has, because they are 'page-turners' and you do feel compelled to find out what happens. But "The Day After Tomorrow" is so poorly written that I gave up when I was about 3/4 of the way through. It's currently sitting in my bin, and although it goes against the grain, I'm very tempted to burn it, so that no one else has the misfortune to read my copy.
The worst book of its type that I have ever come across.
Disappointing and overwrought

I bought it as a gift for my thriller fanatic girlfriend, who enjoyed it quite well. So I picked it up. And now I'm glad I've put it down.
The premise is fine and the opening line grabs you immediately, but soon after the growing pile of bodies gets in the way. The antagonists' power and arrogance become ridiculously far stretched. Not to mention the main conspiracy is laid out almost halfway with sadly no twist whatsoever in the end.
Apart from the well described main characters, even the not at all likeable Dr Osborn, the book drags along and grows heavily thin in the end.
Memorable for years

I have read this book many years ago when it came out; I have read lots of thrillers since and - if I did forget many of the latter - this one book by Allan Folsom I still remember today. It is one of the best thrillers I have ever read among hundreds. So give it a shot, if you like thrillers you will be hooked.
what a load of rubbish, would give it zero if I could

Read some of the other reviews and can't believe some people gave it 5 stars. You must have been reading a different book than the one I read.
Every cliche and co-incidence available features.
Boring characters, except for the American cop McVey.
This was worse than the Di Vinci Code and that takes a lot of doing.
The plot was so transparent. This 'organisation' must have had thousands of members at different levels. Characters couldn't go anywhere or do anything without someone seeing them. Nearly every lawman in the story was on the payroll. I had a bad feeling about the storyline when the 'hero' fitted the bill of the murderer with every detail. He was a surgeon, with access to certain drugs, was in London for a couple of days, could fire a gun etc etc.
The 'girfriend' just happened to be the mistress of the French Prime Minister.
The top notch assassins always screwed up when against him.
One of the 'bad guys' turns against his side.
They always managed to get another name to follow from anyone who was dying.
Sorry folks do yourselves a favour and buy something else
