Rowling opens with a chapter she had wanted to use for the first book, of The Philosopher’s Stone--Lord Voldemort has been creating chaos in the Wizard and Muggle communities alike, the war is in full swing and the Wizarding community now lives in fear. The press have been questioning the events at the Ministry which led to the admission of Voldemort’s return, and of course Harry’s name is mentioned a number of times. Harry’s got his problems, but his anxiety is nothing compared to Hermione’s when the OWL results are delivered. There’s a new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher, an assortment of new characters and creatures, and startling revelations about past characters and events. Gone is the rage-filled Harry of The Order of the Phoenix--he’s not being kept in the dark any more, his unjustified Quidditch ban has been lifted and he has matured considerably in his short time out of school. Half-Blood Prince follows Harry into the world of late-teens, and his realisation that nobody is infallible has made his growth that much easier. Accepting his destiny, Harry continues to behave as teenagers do, enjoying his time with his friends, developing his relationships outside of his usual circle, and learning more about how he must, eventually, do what he is destined to do. J.K. Rowling delivers another fantastic tale which will have the readers gasping for more, capturing the characters perfectly and continuing a tale which readers will enjoy over and over again. --Ziggy Morbi

Amazon.co.uk Review
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth book in J.K. Rowling’s bestselling series, picks up shortly after we left Harry at the end of The Order of the Phoenix. Lord Voldemort is acting out in the open, continuing his reign of terror which was temporarily stopped almost 15 years beforehand. Harry is again at the Dursleys, where the events of the previous month continue to weigh on his mind, although not as much as the impending visit from his Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Given their last meeting, Harry is understandably confused as to why the old wizard would want to visit him at home.
Amazing, with romance and sorrow

I am an avid reader of Harry Potter nand when I read this book Imy initial thought was Wow! this matches up easily to all the other books. In this book Harry turns sixteen and is much more mature than in the previous books. His ban of never playing Quidditch again that Dolores Umbridge gave him has been lifted as she is no longer a teacher at Hogwarts. This year Harrry is made Quidditch captain and now faces choosing this years team and a surprise entry is made! Professor Slughorn is the new teacher this term but things turn around a bit when Harry discovers what he is teaching. Harry was going to give up potions but continues because of the previously mentioned twist. He had to be lent a potions book which he found to be the property of the Half-Blood Prince. This book contains writing on how to complete the potions perfectly, and some new, made-up spells created by the prince himself. However, when Harry uses one of these spells it results in an awful accident. Harry finds himself in love with Ginny Weasley and next thing he is going out with her. Horcruxes come in to this story and when he and Dumbeldore go looking for one Dumbeldore is forced by himself to drink a potion that will give the drinker an agony like no other. When the two get back to Hogwarts they are informed that the Dark Mark has been cast over the castle. But nobody is dead! Yet somebody dies. An awful sorrow it is to all, I won't ruin the surprise of who it is, Harry and the rest of the pupils and many others attend the funeral of this person. This book is amazing and you should most definitely read it.

Well after 800-odd reviews on here, there's not really much more to say about the sixth book in the publishing phenomenon that is the Harry Potter series. What I will say is that the book is an enjoyable read, and is as intriguing as any of its predecessors. However, like the two that came before it, The Half-Blood Prince is overlong, poorly edited, and is somewhat confusing at times.
full blooded magic

What makes Stephen Fry's reading of the Harry Potter series better than the films? The pictures are better. This one is no different. Stick it on your iPod (takes ages, but worth the effort) or play it in the car. Great stuff. Can't wait to get the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is probably the best book ever! I have never read such an amazing book in all my life and after reading it, I couldn't wait to read the next one!!! It is very exciting because Voldemort is on the loose and as read more, more secrets are revealed about He Who Must Not Be Named's past. Also you learn a lot more about Professor Severus Snape. It is very funny, gripping, dark and exciting. It has 607 pages and would be suitable for about 10 years+.
