Not as good as the others but its okay... I guess!

Once again, I entered the world of Machiko Noguchi, the aliens and the predators. I had high expectations of this novel after reading the first two classics.
I instantly noticed that this book is set before hunter's planet, therefore any questions I had about the previous novel were sure to be answered. And they were.
However, I found that at points the story line was quite complicated and I often found myself losing interest.
Nonetheless, this book probably had some of the best descriptive writing out of them all as it goes about portraying the mind of a mad man.
There were many parts of the story that reminded me of the splendour of the old books, like Machiko Noguchi in being a very strong, cool character and there are a few traces of humour in this book, but not as much as the originals.
I have to say that on the whole, this book was a little disappointing considering how much I enjoyed its' predecessors. I found that the same old story was being used. The predators fight the aliens and the humans get in the way and get killed themselves, therefore leading to a small group of heroes saving the day. This story line was excellent the first time, good the second, but a bit old the third time round.
Finally, the most annoying thing about this book is that it explains that a certain predator was killed in one way in this book and then a different way in hunter's planet. Call me crazy, but I think that is a little confusing.
I will probably read this book again to try and get a clearer understanding of why this predator died twice.

Good, but not as good as Prey
Review date: 2005-05-15 Rating: 8 out of 10

I liked this book, after getting Prey a few years back Ive been desperatly searching for more AvP books as they are out of print here in the UK.

This time the story focuses on the human side of the struggle, it flips from Noguchi to the three bug hunters that are held captave on Bunda, I liked this idea, but it would have been good to see some more of the Predator's perspective as it was so brilliantly pulled off in Prey.

Overall though, the book is good, I really got attached to Machiko Noguchi and her struggle for humanity, at times I felt sorry for her. However, the predators came off as quite cruel creatures, they wern't explained enough in this one.

The human side definatly shines in this book and its recommended for any AvP/Aliens/Predator fan.

4/5
