Can't get enough of these books, funny, exiting and sexy. Desperate for the next installment as have red the first two half a dozen time, the only dowside to this book is that the cover (though done in a stylish metallic look) has worn off very badly.

Vampire Slayer meets Vampire Assassin

Cat Crawfield seems rather invincible. She's a half-vampire, half-human woman who works as a vampire slayer for the government. Four years have passed since the events in the previous book ('Halfway to the Grave') and she has been trying to move her life on after leaving her vampire lover, Crispin Randall, known as Bones although the cause of this name isn't explained in this book. However when Cat discovers that someone is trying to assassinate her she finds herself teaming up with Bones again to try to find out who's trying to kill her. Cat now has her own team of humans who help her in her vampire slaying and she has to overcome their prejudices against the undead as well as her own negative feelings towards Bones's former lovers.
There's plenty of action in this book - Cat's an invincible (almost) fighter although the fights have more realism than some as people do actually get injured. She's a lively and interesting character too although she does tend to leap into situations without properly reflecting on them some of the time. Cat's vampire-hating mother has a brief appearance in this book which is amusing but it's mostly about vampire politics, fights and Cat and Bones's relationship, as well as Cat's thirst for vengeance against her father.
Some of the dialogue for Bones felt a little awkward - he used English slang but sometimes it didn't quite sound authentic to these English ears. He was also slightly nebulous as a character - I didn't feel I really got to know him in the same way that I learned about the other characters. This issue was perhaps addressed in the previous book in the series, which I haven't read, but it didn't really detract from this story too much.
However I loved this book, felt it was well-paced and interesting with some good characters and with well-thought-out vampire lore underpinning the events. It has inspired me to pick up the first in the series and I will certainly look forward to the next offering from this author.

Another Great Read

Catherine "Cat" Crawford is back with her own brand of kick-arse heroine.
The story continues four years after the completion of the last book with Cat still handing out justice to the victims of Vampires gone bad. Now Cat has teams of human operatives to help with the vampire slaying, that is if they survive boot camp.
Cat is a bridesmaid at her friends wedding. Walking down the isle she comes face to face with Bones who, much to her surprise is also in the wedding party.
All the characters are back with some new ones being introduced. We can't forget about Cat's mother who is at her vampire hating best. We find out more about Cat's vampire father and learn that Cat also has a long lost Uncle. Cat must survive a hit that has been put out on her and the only one with the skills and power to help her is Bones.
If you liked the first book in the series you will also, I am sure enjoy One Foot in the Grave.

This is a great story. I love the characters of Cat and Bones. Read in one sitting (admittedly on a plane that was delayed). Looking forward to more in the series.

Halfway To The Grave was one of my favourites from among the big pile of urban fantasies I read over last midwinter, and I like this sequel even more.
I read it in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. Honestly, this is one of those books you carry around the house with you, bumping into furniture while you try to navigate the day with your nose stuck between the pages. It's a fast, exciting, hard-hitting story full of fangs and blood and love and action. And the sex sizzles!
Cat Crawfield is rapidly catching up with Carrie Vaughn's werewolf Kitty as my best-loved Urban Fantasy character. There are other main characters I enjoy in the genre, but both of these are products of nurture as well as nature, and they're written with such depth and breadth that I can't help falling in love with them.
