The Wolf what?
Review date: 2008-08-27 Rating: 4 out of 10

Starts off okay and then falls flat on its back into a self indulgent nonsence of vickings fighting in the deserts of North Africa.

The Oathsworn Sail again
Review date: 2008-04-01 Rating: 8 out of 10

Rob's second release and one that really will keep you glued to the pages until the last line as the Oathsworn (Robs version of the Dirty Dozen and Wild Geese all rolled into one) take on everything that is thrown at them in their quest to rescue shipmate as well inducting others into their ranks, all to regain the blade of Atil from the thieves lead by an old enemy. Cracking, enticing and above all a rolicking adventure that takes the reader through the Great Green as if they were sailing with the Oathsworn themselves with the detail contained making the reader feel the spray of the sea upon their faces. Beautifully crafted, skilfully managed and above all a tale that will live on, many will be the amused faces in the Odinhall when they hear of this brave band of Mauraders.

The Oathsworn return
Review date: 2008-03-21 Rating: 8 out of 10

The Wolf Sea is the sequel to robert Low's bestselling first novel The Whale Road. It continues the tale of the Oathsworn - a band of viking mercenaries and their young leader Orm who are out on the hunt for plunder and glory. In this story the band travel to the Middle east in the search of Orm's stolen sword and its thief Starkad. This is a novel of hardship suffering and brutality, where the author rarely bothers to spare the details.
This is a very enjoyable read and easy to get into, however at times Orm's wanderings do seem to be a little aimless and it lacks the spark that the Whale Road had from the very first page. Despite this the sequel is far from a dissapointment, I would recommend it to anyone and I eagerly await the third book in the series.

The Oathsworn.
Review date: 2008-03-17 Rating: 10 out of 10

Orm and his crew, the Oathsworn, continue their adventure to Serkland in search of the Rune Serpent and Starkad. There are plenty of heroics and fighting on their travels, the stuff saga-tales are made of. Orm's Odin-luck is tested to the full by Loki and the Norns keep weaving his fate.
Excellent follow up to the Whale Road, I read this book in 5 days. If you're interested in Norse adventure, read this book!

Just Didn't Quite Do It For Me
Review date: 2008-03-13 Rating: 6 out of 10

Robert Low has been a journalist and writer since the age of seventeen in places as far away as Vietnam, Sarajevo, Romania and Kosovo until the concerns of his wife and daughter prevailed. Even now his craving for being among the action has prompted him to join The Vikings a re-enactment society and he now spends his summers fighting in helmet and mail in shield walls all over Britain. He lives in Largs, Scotland, where coincidentally the Vikings were finally defeated and expelled from Britain.

This is a sequel to the best selling book The Whale Road with Robert Low following in the footsteps of such authors as Cornwell, Iggulden, Scarrow and the like. It tells the story of the men aboard a Viking long ship, drawn together in a single cause and prepared to shed blood or even die for their ship mates.

This is the continuing story of Orm Rurikson and the viking crew he joined as a boy. It is fast paced and exciting reading and is a good read for all those who love books about this period. However on a personal note I did not enjoy it as much as the first book, The Whale Road. I don't know why, all the ingredients are there but it just lacked that vital spark. Having said that I am sure that many people will enjoy it enormously
