Interesting but slow in parts
Review date: 2007-11-10 Rating: 6 out of 10
If you were hooked with Identity then this book takes the story forward in time, and is good fun. It could do with editing down a bit as I agree it gets a bit slow in the middle but I enjoyed it. I would give Identity 5 stars, Supremacy 3 stars and Ultimatum 4 stars. The films has little to do with the book except the title and Jason Bourne.

Poor

A generic unimaginative storyline, been there and read it all before. An extremely poor writing style, agonising to read and boredom was the only drive to finish it. I'm sure some devotees will enjoy it, but there are far better spy thrillers out there.
Good book, but takes a while!!!!

After reading the Bourne Identity I bought this book, to see the next chapter of the Bourne Adventure.
It's a good read, but after you are 1/4 of the way through it, the story starts to drag on (a chapter on what Bourne is doing, then suddenly moving away from him in the next chapter and about 15 pages of Marie!!!) Picks up over the last 100 or so pages.
It is awfully slow (infact I gave up reading half way through to read the Bourne Legacy before going back to it) but an enjoyable story if you can devote time to it.
FINALLY....

I have managed to finish this book. It's incredibly long, and at points extremely dull, but don't let that put you off, because there is a reward come the ending.
This sequel to The Bourne Identity suffers from the same problems that afflicted that book - a lot of repetition, a need to describe everything in great detail (which starts to drag). But Supremacy is also slightly faster paced than its prequel, with far more action.
Also, if you have seen the film, don't expect this to be similar. The only thing the book and the film share are the names of the characters.
Here, Bourne is forced back into the spy game in an effort to rescue his wife Marie, who has been kidnapped. Of course, as he does his work, he starts to uncover a conspiracy...
The setting in the Far east is much more Exotic, and gives the opening of the book more interest. The middle section of the book fairly plods along at snails pace, with Ludlum seemingly intent on telling us the story of Marie, when it is Bourne's story which is far more interesting.
But hang on, because the last 150 pages literally run past at such a pace that it is hard to put down. If only the rest of the book had been like this! There's plenty of action as Bourne eases ever closer to his wife, and a scene set in a bird sanctuary was particularly violent and memorable.
If you enjoyed the first book, then this is a must. If you didn't like the first book, then this is worth trying out as the ending makes it all worthwhile.
Read it even if you have watched the film

A highly entertaining second installment to Robert Ludlum's Bourne trilogy. It is worth the effort even if you have seen the film (which does no justce to it whatsoever), because the book and film draw very few parallels to one another. Despite its somewhat laboured storyline, the book holds suspence very well. I would reccomend reading it in one short burst otherwise the storyline may begin to bore. It is not an all time great, but it will keep you entertained. Worth reading!
