Roddenberry Merchandise : Scripts : Star Trek: Voyage One "The Cage"

The Cage
This original pilot episode of The Original Series was written in 1964 but not aired until 1988. It stands as the purest example of Gene Roddenberry's vision, and carries the essential themes of "Star Trek" but has a different set of main characters and terminologies. Fans will be surprised by a softer, gentler Spock - who, notwithstanding the personality shift, is the only main character to carry over into The Original Series second pilot and series.

New Star Trek Starring Matt Damon

Seen on Aint It Cool News...

J.J. Abrams & Co. are smitten with the notion of Matt Damon as James T. Kirk in their forthcoming theatrical relaunch of STAR TREK.
The post on Aint it cool also says taht Abrams has already spoken to the original Kirk, William Shatner, and has receved his blessing on this.

William Shatner last played Kirk in Star Trek Generations, before the movie series handed over completly to the next generation cast
